Our Development and Operational Policy

The mission of LATAZ is outlined in our Mission document found in our key documents.

As we strive to achieve this mission, to stay relevant, and to remain sustainable, the association has a policy that is reviewed, updated, and reported back to members at our National Council and Annual General Meeting.

LATAZ’s current development and operational policy has six main themes:

1.     Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

  • LATAZ will actively and deliberately explore how it can enhance activities that will help it connect, develop and support members through various CPD opportunities.

2.     Membership benefits and services

  • To effectively review the types of membership, member benefits and services, and the split between what is offered just to members and what is offered to non-members.

3.     Sustainability

  • To effectively use its resources to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure its ongoing sustainability.
  • To reduce and minimise the carbon footprint of LATAZ events, including the national conference and national language and literacy fair.
  • Join the countrywide campaigns for a cleaner, greener and healthier Zambia.
  • Generate funds and utilise them prudently for the benefit of members and the continued existence of the association.

4.     Diversity, equity and inclusion (One Zambia, One Nation)

  • LATAZ shall conduct and monitor its activities to ensure they encompass all participants’ individual needs. This includes the needs of our members, pupils and also, when appropriate, those of the wider language-teaching community.
  • To bring together the voices of diverse members and other relevant professional stakeholders and learners, always highlighting and respecting the provisions of our Code of Conduct.
  • To create specific spaces for the professional development of primary literacy teachers and individuals with Special Education Needs.
  • To reach out to members and non-members around the country so as to incorporate their voices and experiences into the activities of the Association.
  • Learner participation
  • Organise activities that provide a platform for pupils to demonstrate their communicative and literary competencies.
  • Hold annual school, district, provincial and national language and literacy fairs.
  • Introduce competitions that enhance the development of communicative competencies.
  • Review procedures and processes of holding pupil activities to achieve the intended purpose in more effective ways.

6.     A longer-term review of LATAZ, its services and functions

  • To ensure the continued relevance of LATAZ to its members, pupils, key partners, stakeholders, the  Ministry of Education and the wider language-teaching community.
