About LATAZ

History

The Language Teachers Association of Zambia is a teacher association operating under the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Standards, Evaluation and Assessment. Formerly known as the English Teachers’ Association of Zambia (ETAZ) is a non-profit making organisation established on 20th August 1976 and renamed on 26th June 2009 the association has been providing networking platforms for language and literacy teaching professionals and pupil competitions. The first National Chairman was Brian Tomlinson and Secretary R. Elis who were both British expatriate teachers of English. Currently, the association is led by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and has governance structures at provincial, district and school levels responsible for the implementation of its mission of Connecting, Developing and Supporting language and literacy teachers countrywide.

To achieve its mission, LATAZ organises teacher events and pupil-centred activities. For teachers, the association serves its members with a balanced professional development diet consisting of Conferences (held at district, provincial and national levels), Special Interest Group (SIG) Events, webinars, workshops, projects, publications, research publication platforms and many more. Click here to join! The association provides our learners with a platform to showcase their communicative competencies through various level-specific competitions at its Annual National Language and Literacy Fair. Pupils compete in drama, debate, scrabble, quiz, essay writing and spelling. It’s a great opportunity for both teachers and pupils to network and learn something new. It is also a fantastic marketing opportunity for companies, organisations and institutions to partner with LATAZ and advertise your products. Click Here to find out how.

LATAZ is open to all language and literacy teaching professionals practising their trade in Zambia and beyond. Become a member today!
